The Sindh government has taken a revolutionary step for women and decided to hold a lottery for electric scooties (EV Scooties) next month. This important decision was announced during a high-level meeting, which was chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. The meeting also reviewed the progress of major transport projects underway across Sindh, including Karachi.
Provision of Modern Transport to 1,000 Women
In the first phase, 1,000 women will be provided with electric scooters, for which all preparations have been completed. The aim of this initiative is to empower women, provide them with independent transportation and create ease in their daily lives. Sharjeel Memon said that the government is trying to start an EV taxi service along with electric scooters from June 2025, so that environmental pollution can be reduced in urban and rural areas of Sindh and modern facilities can be provided to the public.
Yellow Line BRT Project: Towards Timely Completion
The meeting also highlighted the progress of the Yellow Line BRT project. While giving a briefing, Project Director Yellow Line said that the Jam Sadiq Bridge will be completed in June 2025, ahead of the scheduled deadline of September 2025. This news is no less than good news for the citizens of Karachi, as the early completion of this bridge will reduce the traffic load and facilitate transportation. The construction of Depot One and Depot Two of the Yellow Line project is also progressing rapidly, and it is expected that both these units will also be completed ahead of schedule.

He said that the construction of depots, stations and a biogas plant is underway under this project. The Red Line will be Pakistan’s first biogas-powered BRT system, which is a big step towards environmental protection.
Safe and Modern Transport for the People of Karachi
Sharjeel Memon directed that all the concerned agencies ensure timely completion of the projects. He said, “The people of Karachi are waiting for modern, safe and reliable transport. We have to complete the projects not only on time but also ensure high quality and transparency.”

Improvements in Green Line BRT
The meeting also considered the Green Line BRT, whose administration is now under the management of the Sindh government. After this decision, the daily ridership of the Green Line has increased from 50,000 to 61,000. This shows that the people are now preferring public transport over traditional transport.
Need for 500 New Buses for Rural Areas
Sharjeel Memon pointed out that there is a dire need for at least 500 new buses in different districts of Sindh. He said that the government wants to find a permanent and sustainable solution to the transport problems in both urban and rural areas.
Conclusion
The Sindh government’s plan to provide electric scooters to women is a very positive and revolutionary step. It will not only make women independent but will also help in solving the city’s traffic and environmental problems. At the same time, initiatives like the BRT project, biogas plant and EV taxi are a clear proof of the Sindh government’s eco-friendly, people-friendly and modern transport vision. This project will not only provide easy transportation to women, but it will also help in developing the transport system in the entire province on modern lines.
