600,000 Punjab Farmers to Benefit from Rs 5,000 Subsidy Scheme Approved by Maryam Nawaz

Providing a big relief to farmers, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved financial assistance of Rs 5,000 per acre to more than 600,000 farmers under the “Wheat Subsidy 2025”. This subsidy will be provided through Kisan Card, while farmers who have not yet been able to obtain Kisan Card will also be provided with this financial assistance. This significant decision was announced during a special meeting chaired by the Chief Minister of Punjab. The meeting discussed in detail the problems of farmers across the province, reducing their financial burden, and measures related to increasing agricultural production. On this occasion, Maryam Nawaz said that “Farmers are the backbone of our economy and addressing the challenges faced by them is the top priority of the government.”

Billions of Rupees Wheat Subsidy 2025 Announced for Farmers

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced that the Punjab government will provide billions of rupees in subsidies for the upcoming crops as well so that farmers can easily purchase fertilizers, seeds and agricultural inputs. The participants were informed in the meeting that till now farmers have purchased agricultural inputs worth about Rs 36 billion through Kisan Card, which is proof that the government’s Kisan Card program is succeeding.

Significant Progress in Loan Repayment

The meeting also revealed the welcome news that farmers have repaid Rs 22 billion of the loans taken under Kisan Card. The repayment rate of loans given for agricultural inputs has crossed 60 percent, which shows the financial discipline and seriousness of the farmers. In view of this, the government has also started the release of the second installment for the new crop under Kisan Card.

Progress in the Implementation of the Wheat Subsidy 2025

It was informed in the meeting that verification of 50 percent of the applications received for the Weight Support Price Program has been completed, while the examination of the remaining applications is also in progress rapidly. The government is trying to provide financial assistance to all deserving farmers in a timely and transparent manner.

Focus on Solarization of Agricultural Tube Wells

Another important development in the meeting led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was that a detailed review of the solarization scheme for agricultural tube wells was also taken. Under this scheme, tube wells will be converted to solar energy to relieve farmers from rising electricity bills. This step is not only environmentally-friendly but will also lead to a significant reduction in the expenses of farmers.

Proposal to Include Contractors in the Financial Scheme

One of the proposals discussed in the meeting was that not only landowners but also contractors cultivating the land should be included in the subsidy and financial schemes. This will directly benefit millions of contract farmers in Punjab and is expected to increase agricultural production.
